Brain injury can put enormous strain on relationships - yet couples often don’t get the targeted therapy they need. That’s why researchers developed Continuity Therapy - a new approach designed to help couples reflect, reconnect, and rebuild after a brain injury. ▪️Sixteen couples took part in a study from April 2023 to March 2025, completing ten therapy sessions over three months. ▪️The sessions focused on communication, shared activities and emotional connection — helping couples rediscover their strengths and resilience. ▪️Results showed large improvements in relationships and moderate improvements in mental wellbeing, which were still there three months later. Given the promising outcomes the next step is a randomised controlled trial to evaluate the therapy’s effectiveness on a larger scale.
