The Centre for Search Research

The Centre for Search Research is a UK-registered charity focused on research and training related to searching for lost and missing persons. Established in 1997 by Dave Perkins and Pete Roberts, both members of the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team since the early 1970s, the charity aims to advance the effectiveness of search operations[1][3].

History

The charity was formed with the purpose of exploring topics and techniques in search management. Founders Dave Perkins and Pete Roberts have extensive experience in Search and Rescue (SAR), having served as team leaders in the Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team. Carl Hamilton, another experienced member of the NNPMRT, joined the Centre in 2012[3][4].

Activities

The Centre for Search Research offers training courses in incident management, search management, and search skills. These courses cater to both statutory and civilian organizations, applicable in various terrains from urban to wilderness environments. The charity also engages in publishing research on a range of SAR-related topics[1][3].

Governance

The Centre is organized and run by a management group of trustees, ensuring the charity operates effectively in achieving its objectives[3].

Mission

The Centre's mission is to preserve and protect the lives of persons who are missing or endangered due to accidents or natural hazards. This is achieved through research and the dissemination of best practices in search and rescue operations[2].
