Marking the culmination of a year's training with our CCF contingent, 19 of our cadets took part in a week-long training camp in Northumberland. They spent 2 days in the field, honing their skills in fieldcraft, patrolling, tactics and blank firing exercises, weathering the elements with resilience and teamwork. Next came a variety of camp-based activities, from full-bore range shooting, leadership challenges, virtual marksmanship and STEM tasks, to paintball and laser clay pigeon shooting. The final 2 days at N Yorkshire Water Park offered a change of pace with orienteering, obstacle courses, axe throwing, paddleboarding and bushcraft. Last weekend, a determined group of 14 students set out across the Cairngorm Mountains to complete their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award Assessment Expedition. Among them was our Head of School, Hannah, who reflected on the experience: "Gold DofE has helped me develop important life skills. I have enjoyed learning to rely on myself, work better in a team, and become more organised and efficient along the way. It's a real challenge, but such a rewarding one. You get to explore - and survive in - some of the UK's most beautiful landscapes and come away with a great sense of achievement and lots of fun memories with your friends."
