Prior's Court Foundation
Prior's Court Foundation (Charity number 1070227) is a UK-based registered charity dedicated to providing specialist education and residential care for autistic young people with complex needs. The charity supports individuals aged 5 to 25, helping them develop skills towards greater independence and improved quality of life.
History and Purpose
Prior's Court Foundation manages Prior's Court School and the Prior's Court Young Adult Provision, both of which cater exclusively to autistic individuals with moderate to severe learning difficulties and complex needs. The foundation's mission is to create brighter futures through tailored educational and care programs designed to meet the unique challenges faced by their students.
Services
- Prior's Court School: An independent special school for children and young people aged 5 to 19. All pupils are on the autism spectrum and have significant learning challenges. Many are non-verbal or have limited language skills. The school follows a curriculum aimed at learners working from lower P levels through to National Curriculum levels 1 and 2.
- Residential Care: Offers day, weekly, and termly residential placements across 38, 44, or 52 weeks annually, providing consistent care tailored to the needs of young people with complex profiles.
- Young Adult Provision: Extends support for autistic individuals up to age 25, helping them transition towards adulthood with continued education and life skills development.
The services are designed for autistic young people who may also have additional diagnoses and present challenging behaviours. The foundation emphasizes a supportive environment that fosters learning, communication, and independence.
Impact and Recognition
Prior's Court Foundation is recognized for its specialist approach to autism education and care, addressing the needs of a highly complex group of young people. Its integrated model of education and residential support provides continuity and stability, which are critical for the development of autistic individuals with significant needs.

Each September, our young people and staff come together for the Wear Green for Joseph football match. Almost every young person took part this year, either on the pitch or cheering from the sidelines, with brilliant goals scored by both staff and young people. It is a very special way for our community to remember our much-loved colleague Joseph Mugabe by doing something he loved. Thank you to staff who supported young people to join in. (fb)
Shout out to Alfie, Bethany, and Scarlett who took on the 5K Tough Mudder last weekend, facing driving wind, icy pits, and a whole lot of mud - all to raise funds for our Enriching Experiences Appeal. None of the trio had done anything like this before, but together they pushed through 12 foot walls, freezing water, a 40 foot climbing frame and more, completing the course in two and a half hours. Alfie, our Marketing and Communications Officer, said: “It was really tough but so much fun, and knowing we were doing it for the young people we support made all the scrapes and bruises worth it.” The team have already raised nearly £1000 with Gift Aid and there’s still time to support their efforts. 👉 You can still donate via the link in the comments. Every donation helps us provide activities and experiences for our young people that they may not otherwise access. (fb)
