We are delighted to announce that both Truro School and Truro School Pre-Prep have been shortlisted for awards at this year’s Independent Schools of the Year Awards. Organised by Independent School Parent magazine, these awards regularly receive hundreds of applications from prestigious schools across the country, and so it is an honour to once again be shortlisted in two categories. Independent School Parent wrote: “Once again, the judges of the Independent Schools of the Year awards have been overwhelmed with entries from schools across the UK of all shapes and sizes. With a record number of entries received, it has been harder than ever to reach a decision on which schools to shortlist and put forward to the next stage of the campaign.” Truro School and Truro School Pre-Prep were nominated for awards in the Independent School of the Year (South) and Pre-Prep of the Year category. Dr Helen Wright, chair of the judging panel, said: “Reading through this year’s entries, the judges have been particularly struck by the resilience and determination shown by the UK independent schools sector in the face of unprecedented challenge to their existence. Meantime, globally, independent schools are facing up to political uncertainty with equal levels of fortitude. Independent schools across the world, it is clear, are working harder than ever to ensure that their students – and the whole community – will develop into well-rounded human global citizens who are able to make the most of their own skills, in order to contribute positively to humanity.” With many new names appearing in the list of schools which have entered the awards this year, it is going to be extremely tough to settle on the eventual winners. We wish all of you the best of luck going forward and, in the meantime, are delighted to commend the rich collection of entries being announced today.” Finalists will be announced on Tuesday 9 September and the winners will be revealed at an awards ceremony in October. Families, esteemed guests, staff, and pupils gathered for the annual Truro School Prep Speech Day, a cherished occasion recognising the achievements and spirit of our vibrant school community. The event opened with heartfelt prayers and reflections from Head of Truro School, Mr Andy Johnson, and Head of Truro School Prep, Mr Rob Morse, who shared thoughts on the year gone by, celebrating the values and accomplishments that define life at Truro School Prep. There was also a beautiful performance of ‘A Clare Benediction’ by John Rutter from our Prep choir and current cohort of choristers. The distribution of prizes was led by our guest of honour, Ms Bella Collins, whose remarkable story left a lasting impression on all who attended. Bella is a record-breaking ocean rower who crossed both the Atlantic and mid-Pacific Oceans, despite having no prior experience in rowing or endurance sport. At just 21, she became part of the youngest and fastest all-female team to row across the Atlantic. She later rowed across the Pacific to break the female world record by over two weeks. Pupils in Years 3 to 5 were recognised for their achievements in attainment, progress, citizenship, effort, and the creative arts. It was a delight to celebrate their energy, enthusiasm, and dedication. Our exceptional Year 6 pupils were then honoured for their many contributions to school life, with prizes awarded for excellence across academia, creativity, sport, and character. Their time at Truro School Prep has been marked by courage, confidence, creativity, compassion and curiosity. The final award, the Head’s Cup, was presented to Ellie L for her outstanding contribution to all areas of school life. Truro School Prep Speech Day 2025 was a joyful and uplifting way to close the year and a testament to the strength, spirit, and community that define our school. (fb)
