We're delighted to welcome back guest conductor and friend of the orchestra Scott Wilson for next month's concert at Cadogan Hall! 🎼 London-based Australian conductor Scott Wilson was Zander Fellow with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra, Artist in Residence at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Conducting Fellow at the Guildhall School. His musicianship is founded on the pedagogical traditions of Ilya Musin and Nadia Boulanger, which he received under the mentorship of his principal teachers Sian Edwards and Norman Beedie. He studied with Maestro Kurt Masur in Sweden, Gianluigi Gelmetti in Italy, Johannes Fritzsch in Australia, and Ed Spanjaard in Hungary. He has been fortunate to work in Europe, North and South America, and Australia. Scott Wilson is passionate about promoting the works of Australian composers, especially Peter Sculthorpe and Carl Vine. In addition to performing numerous European premieres by Australian composers, he has frequently collaborated with the British composer John Woolrich. Scott is Director of the Carlos Miguel Prieto Conducting Fellowship, Head of Orchestral Studies for the Orchestras of the Americas’ OAcademy, and he directs Short Courses in Conducting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has been an Associate Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra, taught at the Royal College of Music, Trinity College of Music Junior Department, and the Aldeburgh Young Musicians Programme, and he maintains an online studio teaching students from across the world. His previous career was as a percussionist specialising in contemporary solo and chamber repertoire. He founded the ensemble Sankorfa, with whom he released a CD - in between instruments - which featured performances of his compositions. In addition, he worked with the Australian World Orchestra, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Shakespeare Company, and at the Royal National Theatre, recorded chamber music for the BBC, and performed at contemporary music festivals throughout Europe. Scott Wilson is at the forefront of a generation of classical musicians who believe their art form has the potential to connect with a much larger audience. He envisions a paradigm shift, growing the art form from its current position at the fringe to one where classical music achieves a prominent and passionate audience. In addition to speaking and writing on the subject, during the pandemic he devised a podcast - A Thousand Pictures - aimed at introducing new audiences to the art form. Hear Scott perform works by Elgar, Stanford, Strauss and Ravel with YMSO on Wednesday 18th June at Cadogan Hall 🎶 TICKETS ON SALE NOW 🎫: https://cadoganhall.com/whats-on/young-musicians-symphony-orchestra-elgar-stanford-strauss-ravel/ (fb)
Everyone at YMSO was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ronald Corp OBE on Wednesday. Ron was one of the most brilliant figures in British classical music, and a longstanding friend, collaborator, and steadfast supporter of the orchestra. He was a kind, gracious and talented man who will be missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace. (fb)

YMSO Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra Home Next Concert Wednesday 18th June 2025 On 9th May we were delighted to perform once again at the European Union in the UKs celebration of EuropeDay at St Johns Smith Square. The orchestra played a brand new arrangement of the iconic European anthem Ode to Joy followed by the UKs own National anthem. This performance was made especially significant by the 200th anniversary of Beethovens 9th Symphony. Thank you to our friends at European Union in the UK and Cultural Relations Platform for involving us in this special occasion.
