When you have an unconscious casualty who is not breathing normally, you must start CPR immediately! CPR keeps the heart in a shockable state and the AED delivers the shock, but how do we prepare for defibrillation to ensure ourselves and the casualty is safe? 1. Ensure there are no environmental hazards - glass, electrical hazards, roadside traffic etc. 2. Expose the chest fully - the pads must be stuck to bare skin. 3. Dry the skin - to ensure the pads fully stick to bare skin 4. Shave excess hair (if required) and remove medication patches (if required) - to ensure the pads fully stick to bare skin The AED will deliver instructions to help ensure a smooth resuscitation attempt. Barts City Life Saver is a unique registered Charity that teaches life saving skills to people living or working in central London. What we do We provide exceptionally high quality training in Basic Life Support BLS for adults and children and safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator AED delivered by our passionate team of dedicated trainers. Adult BLS and AED training Adult Baby and Child BLS and AED training All our trainers are either fully qualified or trainee healthcare professionals such as doctors nurses and physiotherapists and are not only competent in the delivery of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR and the use of an AED they are skilled and experienced first aid and basic life support teachers.
