Emmaus UK's Chief Executive, Charlotte Talbott has welcomed the boost for affordable housing announced in the government Spending Review yesterday. Her statement was made after Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced an allocation of £39bn in funding for affordable homes over the next 10 years, combined with a long-term social housing rent settlement that will enable providers to invest in new social homes. Charlotte said: “The near doubling in government funding for affordable housing announced in the Spending Review, alongside funding for homelessness prevention, is a transformational boost for the provision of safe, secure, and affordable homes, and in the fight to end homelessness. “Ending homelessness is not only about funding, which is why we are pleased to see these spending commitments coupled with the scrapping of the outdated and deeply harmful Vagrancy Act, ending 200 long years of homelessness being criminalised.
