It's Foster Care Fortnight and PureGym are working with Fostering South West and Torbay Council to encourage gym members to do 45,000 steps to raise awareness of Fostering. Currently, 1 in 5 children in foster care are forced to move more than 20 miles away from their homes due to a shortage of local council foster carers. These long-distance moves can disrupt crucial relationships with their local community, family, and friends, which are vital for their emotional and social well-being. The lack of proximity to familiar environments and supportive networks can have a profound impact on the stability and development of these young individuals. Pure Gym members are encouraged to collectively walk or run as many steps as possible, aiming to exceed a symbolic target of 45,000 steps. This number represents the average distance children in foster care move away from their homes.
