The BMC's Young Volunteer of the Year Award will now be named in memory of Jessica Baker - a talented young climber and dedicated volunteer who made a significant impact in her community before her death in 2023, aged just 15. Jessica was actively involved in coaching, mentoring, and supporting other climbers at both local and national events. Known for her quiet leadership and willingness to help others, she was respected by peers, coaches, and teachers alike. Established in 2018, the Young Volunteer of the Year Award recognises young people under 27 who have made a meaningful voluntary contribution to the BMC’s work in climbing, hill walking, or mountaineering. By renaming the award, the BMC aims to reflect Jessica’s values and her commitment to supporting others. Nominations for the 2025 Jessica Baker Young Volunteer of the Year Award are now open, closing on Friday 18 July.
