Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation: A Lasting Legacy Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation (CRF) is a UK-registered charity, established in 2002 in memory of Caroline Ann Stuttle, who tragically lost her life during a gap year in Bundaberg, Australia. Founded by her family, the foundation has worked tirelessly for over 20 years to raise awareness of travel safety and to support young people and backpackers in making informed and responsible travel choices. Over the past two decades, CRF has developed and delivered educational programs in schools, colleges, and universities across the UK — helping young people prepare for travel with greater awareness of personal safety, cultural sensitivity and risk management. These initiatives have empowered thousands of students to approach their journeys with confidence and caution. In addition to formal education, CRF has collected and shared real travel stories from individuals around the world. These personal accounts, available on our website and through our Safer Travel platform, have provided honest insights into the joys and challenges of global travel — offering both inspiration and cautionary lessons for new travellers. One of our key initiatives, safertravel.org was developed and was an online resource following our Safer Travel App and was launched as a sister website to CRF. It continues to serve as a practical and accessible resource for travel advice, destination-specific safety guidance, and tools designed to help young travellers plan and navigate their journeys safely. As of 2025, Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation has transitioned to serve primarily as a legacy and information archive. While we remain a registered charity, the CRF website is no longer actively updated or maintained. However, its content — including Caroline’s story, our educational materials, and decades of shared travel experiences — will remain accessible as a tribute to her life and the impact she inspired.
