Humber Learning Consortium

The Humber Learning Consortium (HLC) is a UK nonprofit organization founded in 2002 as a learning and skills partnership hub. It operates primarily in the Yorkshire and the Humber region, with a focus on improving access to learning for disadvantaged and marginalized communities.

Activities

HLC acts as a "single port of call" for funders, enabling them to engage with small providers, often from the voluntary sector. The organization works to strengthen the capacity of local learning and skills delivery by developing and supporting partner organizations. This allows them to access and deliver contracts that might be out of their reach otherwise.

Programmes and Initiatives

HLC implements various programmes aimed at enhancing educational and employment opportunities for disadvantaged learners:

  • 16-19 Study Programme: Tailored educational pathways for young people.
  • Adult Skills Fund: Supports adult learners in developing essential skills.
  • Multiply: Focuses on improving numeracy skills among adults.
  • Exploring Opportunities: Offers resources and guidance for exploring career paths and personal development.
  • Families Learning Together: Encourages intergenerational learning within families.

Impact and Recognition

HLC is recognized for its commitment to disadvantaged learners and for fostering a collaborative environment within the voluntary and community sector. It holds the Disability Confident Leader status, reflecting its dedication to inclusivity and diversity.

Financial Overview

In the financial year ending March 2024, HLC reported a total income of £4,687,234, primarily from government contracts and grants. The organization's expenditure on charitable activities was £4,664,041.

Awards and Recognition

HLC received the Bronze Healthy Places Award in July 2018 for its efforts in promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace. The award focuses on themes such as physical activity, healthy eating, mental health, and emotional wellbeing.

Governance and Status

As a registered charity (number 1097333) and a private limited company by guarantee without share capital, HLC is governed under strict guidelines to ensure its operations align with its charitable objectives. It is actively engaged in enhancing the partnership between voluntary and community organizations and the broader learning agenda.
