Research from RNID has found that many people aren’t confident in communicating with those who have hearing loss 🧏‍♂️ In our latest video, Dr Donna Arya, Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist for Deaf People and our Associate Medical Director for Education, shares her three top tips on how you can make communicating with Deaf people easier. 1️⃣Have a plain background behind you as a busy background makes it difficult to lip-read 2️⃣Make sure light is in front of you so your face isn't shadowed and you can be seen clearly. This is especially important when using Teams or Zoom 3️⃣Ask the person how they would prefer to communicate; perhaps with an interpreter or by signing Supported English. The person may be able to lip read and prefer to communicate that way. Did you know that at St Andrew's, we have the UK's only Deaf Medium Secure ward called Fairbairn?
