Michael's story (name changed to protect confidentiality): When Michael was 18, he came to Gloucestershire Nightstop by chance. His relationship with his family had broken down and he was struggling with poor mental health and had just lost his job. He was homeless, staying with friends occasionally but his situation resulted in him feeling lost and alone. When he ended up at Nightstop he felt a mix of both scared and relieved. Staying at host homes each night, he was able to keep warm, wash his clothes, have a clean bed, eat properly and be sober for the first time. Nightstop staff then helped him find employment and housing. Michael found it hard to cope and still relied on Nightstop for a while until he was able to fully independent. Today, adult Michael has repaired his family relationships, has a long term partner and a family of his own. Our goal is to end youth homelessness in Gloucestershire and provide support, guidance and safety for young people like Michael. However, we cannot do this without community support. The Gloucestershire Nightstop team showed up for the Sandford Park Summer Festival last Sunday! Thank you to everyone that stopped by, signed up and had a chat with us.
