Happy World Lion Day! Lions are more than just majestic creatures of the wild, they are keystone species, meaning their presence is vital for maintaining the balance of the ecosystems they inhabit. As apex predators, lions help regulate prey populations, which in turn preserves the delicate balance of grasslands, forests, and other habitat. Without lions, the natural order begins to unravel. But these magnificent animals are facing serious threats. From habitat loss and poaching to human-wildlife conflict and declining prey, lions are now listed as vulnerable, with their numbers decreasing at an alarming rate. Here in South Luangwa, we are fortunate that lions still roam free, a true testament to the hard work and dedication of those protecting them. A big thank you goes to our partner organisations @Zambiancarnivoreprogramme (ZCP), @conservationsouthluangwa (CSL), and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW) who are at the forefront of lion conservation through research, anti-poaching efforts, habitat protection and they are working closely with communities to ensure people and wildlife can coexist. We couldn't be prouder to work hand in hand with these organisations in the community working towards human wildlife co-existence. Hello Holidays! As the school term wrapped up on the 8th of August, our students are now on a short, well-deserved break, a time to relax, support their families, and recharge for the final stretch of the academic year. Term Two was an exciting journey! Many of our sponsored students actively took part in extracurricular activities like the JETS Fair, Sports, and NASAAZ, platforms that not only build confidence but also help them uncover their hidden talents. Our Grade 9 and 12 students showed great dedication as they sat for their mock exams, preparing themselves for the upcoming finals next term. We are proud of all your hard work and progress.
