The International League of Dermatological Societies

The International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) is a registered charity based in England and Wales, with charity number 1111469. It operates as a company limited by guarantee and plays a pivotal role in advocating for skin health globally.

Objectives and Activities

The ILDS aims to enhance the quality and availability of skin health resources and services worldwide. This is achieved through fostering partnerships and collaborations with various international organizations.

Membership and Representation

The ILDS comprises 217 member organizations from 104 countries, representing over 215,000 dermatologists. This extensive network enables the ILDS to address dermatological issues effectively on a global scale.

Collaboration with Global Organizations

The ILDS works closely with the World Health Organization (WHO), being the only skin specialist organization in official relations with the WHO. This partnership is crucial for raising dermatological issues at the highest level and for implementing global health initiatives.

International Foundation for Dermatology (IFD)

Established by the ILDS in 1987, the International Foundation for Dermatology (IFD) is dedicated to improving skin health in low-resource areas worldwide. The IFD supports various projects globally, including the Regional Dermatology Training Centre in Moshi, Tanzania, and the Community Skin Health Journal. It also manages working groups focused on specific challenges, such as migrant health and the needs of people with albinism.

Projects and Initiatives

Some key projects include:

  • Regional Dermatology Training Centre (RDTC) in Tanzania: A comprehensive center for training, research, and clinical care, providing essential services to dermatological patients and training medical assistants.
  • GLODERM: An initiative aimed at connecting dermatologists worldwide to promote integrated approaches to skin health through clinical care, education, research, policy, and advocacy.

Funding and Support

The IFD distributes significant funding annually to support global skin health projects, ensuring they are accessible and effective for all patients regardless of their background. This work is facilitated by a network of global partners and contributors who help the ILDS achieve its vision of global skin health.
