Civil Air Support were delighted to support this important environmental survey work today in the Scottish Highlands recording snow patches. Civil Air Support were airborne today, once again engaged in our regular monthly transport of time critical specimens from the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy to a specialist laboratory facility in London. As always, this activity was supported by Blood Bikes Scotland and SERV Herts & Beds who collected and delivered the specimens to and from the hospital, aircraft and laboratory facilities at either end. Our CAS Captain for today's flight was Rob Devey, who flew his beautiful TBM 960 aircraft with the samples on board between Glenrothes(Fife) and Cranfield Airports. Rob, like all of our CAS pilots, crew and supporters is a volunteer, donating his aircraft and expertise free of charge. As a result of his significant donation today, a time critical journey that would otherwise have taken all day by road, with the potential for specimens to be spoiled, was instead completed in 3.5 hours door to door. The airborne component lasted little over an hour, at an altitude of up to 28,000 feet and speeds in excess of 340mph. Even we have to say "wow" to that... CAS would like to thank all of the CAS and blood bikes volunteers who supported this activity. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the operators of Glenrothes (Fife) Airport who once again waived all landing and handling charges in recognition of our charitable status and the humanitarian nature of this flight. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #civilairsupport (fb)
