56: Callout – 24 August 2025 An urgent call came in to advise a female at the top of the Kinder Low steps was suffering from symptoms consistent with a heart attack. We responded immediately with a fast party of team members who were close to base. An Air Ambulance was also despatched. When our first party arrived at the scene the Air Ambulance paramedic advised that he had completed initial observations and he didn’t believe it was cardiac related. She was clearly unwell, but all her vital signs were normal and she was stable. It was decided that the most appropriate method of evacuation would be for us to carry her on a stretcher down to an ambulance waiting at Coldwell Clough. This would allow the Air Ambulance to be available if needed at a more serious incident. We deployed three further parties out with our stretcher and were able to carry her down the side of Kinder Low and to our waiting vehicles at Moorgate. From there it was a short ride down to the ambulance and onward to hospital. We hope the lady has a speedy recovery. 55: Callout – 20 August 2025 Two walkers called 999 to report that they had become lost on the top of Kinder Scout. They managed to get enough phone signal to talk to the police, who managed to get a location from them of Crowden Head, right in the middle of the plateau. As they had limited network coverage, the 999 call had jumped on to another cellular network to connect. This means they can get a connection out, but we then can’t call them back or send them our PhoneFind text message, as they still don’t have coverage on their network to receive calls. We began our deployment plan of sending a party in to the plateau along the watershed route, with other parties covering the main escape routes, as we guessed they may still be trying to find a way down, so may well be on the move. This proved to be a good guess, as not long after we started to deploy, the missing pair responded to one of our texts and their location pinged up on our map as being near the Downfall. We diverted our hill parties and soon met up with them on the Edge path. They were escorted back to our vehicles before being driven down and on to onward transport home.
