Village Africa

Village Africa is a UK-registered charity with the aim of alleviating poverty in Tanzania, East Africa. The charitable activities are managed through its partner organisation, Vyaadahikana Village Africa Tanzania, which was registered as a Tanzanian Non-Government Organisation (NGO) on 2 May 2023. Vyaadahikana translates to "It is possible" in the Kisambaa language.

Operations

The charity operates primarily in a remote village called Yamba, located in the West Usambara Mountains in the Tanga region. The charitable work focuses on three main areas:

• Health: Village Africa funds a life-saving ambulance service for remote villages, including Yamba, Milingano, and Makanya. On average, the ambulance conducts 50 emergency trips annually. It also supports health seminars for pupils and the community.
• Education: The charity emphasizes educational development as part of its poverty alleviation strategy.
• Environment: Initiatives are implemented to address environmental challenges in the region.

Structure and Funding

Village Africa is structured as a charitable company limited by guarantee. Its Tanzanian partner, Vyaadahikana Village Africa Tanzania, employs local staff and utilizes local casual labor for various projects, including building initiatives. The charity relies on donations and support to fund its operations.

Collaborations and Partnerships

Village Africa collaborates with other organizations to raise funds. For example, it is involved in a recycling scheme where donations are made based on the recycling of eligible inkjet cartridges, a program that supports its charitable works without additional costs to the charity.

Village Africa is recognized under the UK Charity Commission with the registration number 1122410. Its activities are aligned under the umbrella of the Catholic Diocese of Tanga for its operations in Tanzania.
