Kids in Kathmandu Nepal
Kids in Kathmandu Nepal (KIKN) is a UK-registered charity (charity number 1142150) dedicated to improving the lives of poor and socially disadvantaged children and young adults in Kathmandu, Nepal, primarily through education and related support. Established in 2011, the organization focuses on enabling access to education and addressing basic needs such as nutrition and poverty relief.
Mission and Activities
The core mission of Kids in Kathmandu Nepal is to assist disadvantaged children and young adults, particularly orphans and those facing social hardships, by sponsoring their education and providing essential support services. KIKN currently sponsors the educational costs of approximately 19 children and young adults aged between 9 and 24 years, including those in sixth form and higher education[2].
The charity collaborates with local schools in and around the Kalimati area of Kathmandu. It supports a network of six to nine schools by running breakfast clubs that feed over 700 children, thereby ensuring these children receive at least one nutritious meal per day[1][5].
In response to emergencies and ongoing needs, KIKN has conducted multiple rounds of food relief distribution to children and their families, particularly during challenging seasons and periods of lockdown. These efforts have reached thousands of beneficiaries across several schools in the region, highlighting the charity’s commitment to the prevention and relief of poverty and the advancement of health and saving of lives[1].
Scope and Impact
KIKN’s support extends beyond education to encompass broader economic and community development. The charity provides grants to individuals and organizations, offers human resources assistance, and makes available facilities and open spaces to further community well-being[3].
The beneficiaries of KIKN’s programs primarily include children and young people who face socio-economic disadvantages. The charity’s work also supports other voluntary bodies and organizations operating in Nepal, enhancing collaborative efforts for community development[3][4].
Operating from its base in Bromley, UK, Kids in Kathmandu Nepal maintains a direct impact in Nepal through its local partnerships and initiatives, fostering sustainable development and improved quality of life for vulnerable children in Kathmandu[3].

Just on my way back from Gatwick Airport where KIKN’s first student to study in the UK arrived this evening. I was there with Uma’s daughter and her husband and their son to greet Rasmila as she arrived at the North Terminal after a long journey via Dubai and some initial luggage problems at Kathmandu airport in the early hours of this morning. It was so nice to see her finally arrive and I was glad to be there in person to welcome her to the UK. Rasmila is coming to complete a 12 month Masters course in Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Surrey in Guildford. She will initially be staying with Uma’s daughter while she settles into the UK. (fb)
KiKN reps Stephen & Kate presented Yadav Bhandari the owner of Everest Inn restaurant in Blackheath with a certificate of appreciation yesterday. The Everest Inn has given us a voucher for a meal for two for almost every event we’ve undertaken since 2016. Thank you Yadav. (fb)
