𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 Recognition is always welcome so it was good to see that our environmental efforts in Bequia are being recognised with the 2025 TradeWinds Environmental Hero Award. During the closing celebrations of the recently reborn Easter Sailing Regatta, our Executive Director Lucille Cozier accepted the award on behalf of our team — presented by Ricardo Flores (Vice President of Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations at TradeWinds) and Hon Minister Carlos James. Our efforts in positive environmental change on Bequia include: 𝟏. 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥 𝐃. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐞: 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐨 It's not enough to just pick up litter. People have to be enthused not to drop it in the first place. Hence 21 of these appealing whale structures are now placed at key locations around Bequia encouraging passersby to dispose of their glass and plastic bottles responsibly. 𝟐. 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Over 100 bins are placed in pairs around Bequia. Our team at the Recycling Centre sort, wash and bag together plastic bottles, which are then sent to All Islands Recycling (AIR Inc) on St. Vincent every week. 𝟑. 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 Our efforts to protect reefs and other marine life from anchor damage include laying seven new moorings at Bequia’s main dive sites.
