On June 1st, 2025, a group of 25 young girls ages 13 to 19 from the Luol Deng Foundation’s Deng Academy participated in a program called the “Female Athlete Triad” in South Sudan, facilitated by sport physician, Dr. Julia Akot in collaboration with the Luol Deng Foundation. This initiative focused on using basketball as a tool to raise awareness among female athletes regarding critical issues such as energy availability, menstrual function and bone health.
