We were delighted to welcome guests to an evening at Worcester College, honouring one of Britain’s most distinguished historians, Lord Asa Briggs, former Provost (1976–1991) on Friday 24 Oct. Lord Briggs began and completed his academic career at Worcester, arriving in 1945 fresh from Bletchley Park to take up a new Fellowship in Economics and Political Science. During his career he which took him from Leeds to Sussex, and back to Worcester, he became a towering figure in history and education. His tenure as Provost was a period of transformation, marked by the admission of women, significant expansion, and a strengthening of the College’s intellectual community. Adam Sisman, award-winning biographer and Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature, joined us to launch his latest work on Lord Briggs. It was an evening of reminiscing for some and learning about a truly remarkable man for those not so familiar with him.
