Fifteen musicians from the County Clarinet and Flute Choirs visited the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire yesterday for their Open Day, participating in workshops and rehearsals with RBC students and learning more about what studying at a conservatoire would be like. The day began with a performance from the RBC Folk Ensemble, followed by an engaging presentation from Duncan Fielden (Head of Undergraduate Studies) on the available music courses. This was followed by a Woodwind Department presentation, led by Jenni Phillips (Head of Woodwind) and Dougie Mitchell (Associate Head of Woodwind), offering more detailed, woodwind-specific information and included fabulous performances from current RBC students. Throughout the day, there were foyer performances, saxophone and composition workshops, and a guided tour of RBC's facilities and learning spaces. We rounded off our visit with workshops for both choirs, joined by RBC flute and clarinet students. The clarinet session was led by Dougie Mitchell, and the flute session by Helen Benson (CBSO piccolo player), along with the chance to observe the RBC's weekly Flute Club, which this week was preparing for orchestral auditions. It was a full day of inspiring, engaging activities and a great opportunity for NMPAT students to experience conservatoire life. Thanks to all staff and students at RBC for making us feel so welcome, and to the NMPAT staff for providing the opportunity. (fb)
Join us this Sunday 15th June for NMPAT Family Band! 🎶🌳 We'll be at Abington Bandstand from 2.00pm. Anyone who can play an instrument is welcome to join in. There's no need to rehearse, just turn up for a relaxed afternoon of spontaneous music-making! Not playing an instrument? You're still very welcome to join us and come and enjoy the atmosphere! 😎 Let us know if you're planning to take part 👉 bit.ly/FamilyBand2025 (fb)
