The funds raised will go towards providing essential provisions for 38 families who have no food or income due to the pandemic. 122 million Indians lost their jobs in April (that’s four times the unemployment figures in the US). Migrant workers and daily-wage earners were forced to flee the cities they worked in to return to their villages. Returning to their villages, these daily wage earners are not only fighting the Coronavirus, by staying home and staying safe, like the rest of the world, they’re also fighting poverty and starvation. This week, through our partner in Kadapa, Andra Pradesh, we distributed food and hygiene kits to an entire village, home to 50 families. The kits included rice, flour, spices, oil, salt, lentils, potatoes, onions, soap, detergent, masks, gloves and floor cleaner, enough to last them a month. They were also provided information on how to stay safe – wear masks, wash their hands, clean their surroundings etc. There are still 203 families to support, with a cost as little as £25 per family for a whole month’s supply of provisions.
