TreeSisters
TreeSisters is a UK-registered nonprofit organisation and charity (registered charity number 1149961) dedicated to reforestation and ecological restoration with a specific focus on centering women and gender equity in its approach. Founded with the mission to plant hope, justice, resilience, and a new way of living in harmony with the Earth, TreeSisters aims to restore tropical forests through ethical, community-led projects that support biodiversity, indigenous peoples, and local communities[1][2][3].
Mission and Vision
TreeSisters envisions a world where nature and people flourish together in connection, equity, and harmony. Its mission is multifaceted and includes facilitating and inspiring forest restoration, centering women and gender equity in all activities, and fostering a consciousness shift from consumerism to restoration by encouraging deeper connections with nature. The organisation recognises that true restoration goes beyond tree planting to include caring for the land, supporting diverse ecosystems, and respecting the rights and voices of those who have stewarded forests for generations[2][3].
Activities and Impact
TreeSisters supports a portfolio of biocultural, women- and community-led restoration projects primarily focused on tropical forest ecosystems. These projects restore diverse habitats, protect critically endangered species, and empower local and indigenous communities in sustainable stewardship of their environments. Through these initiatives, TreeSisters has funded the planting of over 28 million trees, restoring more than 10,000 hectares of forest across nine active projects as of recent reporting[2][3].
The organisation emphasises a holistic grassroots approach that integrates ecological, social, and cultural elements to ensure long-term restoration success and equitable benefits. Its work highlights the pivotal role women play in environmental leadership and restoration efforts, aiming to awaken and call forth feminine leadership rooted in nature-based wisdom[2][5].
Organisation and Governance
TreeSisters operates with a team of approximately 17 employees and is overseen by a board of trustees. It pays particular attention to ethical governance and has staff with salaries ranging up to £90,000. The charity’s values are deeply embedded in its operational frameworks, such as its Green Cover Strategy and Community Tree Growing Framework, which inform its restoration and behavioural change work[1][3].
Community Engagement and Support
TreeSisters invites individuals globally to join its movement through regular donations and advocacy, emphasizing that everyone can participate in restoring the planet. It offers various ways to contribute, including grants, major gifts, and legacy donations, all aimed at fostering a greener, more equitable future. The charity also provides educational resources and updates through its news and blog channels to keep supporters informed and connected to its work[2][4].
TreeSisters represents a unique model of combining environmental restoration with feminist leadership and social justice, striving to create systemic change for the health of tropical forests and the empowerment of communities living in and around them.

🌿 TreeSisters Presents: A Live Conversation with Dr Rosa Vásquez Espinoza 🌿 We’re honoured to welcome Dr Rosa Vásquez Espinoza for a live online conversation exploring her upcoming book 'The Spirit of the Rainforest' — a powerful exploration of how Indigenous wisdom and scientific curiosity come together to deepen our connection with the natural world. Dr Rosa is no stranger to the Amazon. Growing up with the rainforest as her back garden, she learnt the lessons of the rainforest from her grandmother, a native healer in natural medicine. She went on to pursue a classical education in science, gaining a PhD in the US, but has always been pulled back to the heart of the Amazon. As a leading biologist in her field, Rosa continues to explore the region through a unique blend of scientific inquiry and ancient insight. With heartfelt thanks to Rosa for sharing her time and knowledge with us. The conversation will be hosted by TreeSisters’ Head of Impact and Engagement, Ashley Tamburello, and will include time for audience Q&A — so bring your curiosity and your questions. Date: June 12, 6pm BST, 1pm EDT & 10am PDT Location: Online (free to attend – but please feel free to make a donation to TreeSisters if you’re able) Registration here: http://tiny.cc/rainforestspirit or link in bio We hope you’ll join us for this special event. 🌍💚 Did you know that the forest restoration project we support around Mount Kenya is led by 70% women — and it's transforming lives as well as landscapes? In one of Africa’s most deforested countries, this women-centred project is restoring a critical water catchment for Kenya’s people, while also restoring dignity, income, and leadership to the women at its heart. Together with our partners at International Tree Foundation and MEFECAP, we’re taking a collaborative, community-led approach that combines tree planting with agroforestry, gender equity workshops and hands-on training. The result is healthier forests, stronger communities, and women empowered as green agents of change. This is biocultural restoration in action — and it’s only possible thanks to treesisters like you. 💚🌱 Learn more at treesisters.org/projects/kenya And if you haven’t already, please 👉 join the movement by donating just a few £ or $ a month. Help us fund ethical, community-led restoration, advocate for the rights of Nature, and inspire a movement of reconnection. Give today and grow change: treesisters.org/give Thank you 💚🙏 (fb)
