“When I was 37 weeks pregnant with our son I had a routine scan, which picked up that his heart was enlarged. We were referred to Leeds General Infirmary and just over a week later George was born naturally, weighing 8lbs 8oz at 8pm on the dot. “George was healthy and doing well, but had to go to the ICU to be monitored. It was then that we found out the news that George had a heart condition called Ebstein's anomaly. “We stayed on Ward L51 for just over a week - since then he has had lots of check-ups but he’s continuing to do well and we are expecting that he will have open heart surgery to repair his valve when he is around 6-8 years old. (George is 5 now and just started school!) “We wanted to show some appreciation for the nurses and doctors that cared for George during the week after his birth, and who will also look after him during and after his surgery. “My partner Adam was recently asked by a group of his friends to do the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. Shout out to Rob, Jonny, Myles and Josh. “Adam had done the challenge once before and found it incredibly difficult so was sceptical about doing it again but decided to raise some money for the CHSF to give him a purpose for the challenge. They decided on this fund as it is close to our hearts but also close to Josh’s too as his daughter Luna has Aortic stenosis. “On the 13th September Adam and four of his friends set off on the 2 hour drive at 4am to do the challenge” – Emily, mum to heart hero George We are so grateful to Josh, Rob, Jonny and Myles for taking on this challenge for CHSF – raising an awesome £888 for our heart unit, patients and families! #BecauseOfYou 🩷💚💜💙 #FundraisingFriday (fb)
