DON'T MISS IT: Still some places available for Radical Rediscoveries Sat 26th July: Lesbian Plays from the 1960s, 70s and 80s Radical Rediscovery II LGBTQ+ Playreading Marathons Unfinished Histories and London Performance Studios and are pleased to offer tickets to the second of two day-long playreading sessions exploring works by pioneering voices of early out lesbian theatre from the 1960s, 70s and 80s on Saturday 26th July 11 to 8pm. Join us to explore the theatrical history that shaped a community. Attendees are invited to join to read a role, listen from the audience, or join the conversations that follow each piece, all are welcome. Each day-long marathon will introduce at least four plays, most never published or restaged, but essential to understanding how LGBTQ+ voices fought for space on British stages. The event on 26th will be led by Dr Susan Croft alongside co-facilitator performance makers Rachel Mars. Further details and tickets are available here: https://www.londonperformancestudios.com/radical-rediscovery-ii-lgbtq-playreading-marathon Material covered will include the work of lesbian playwright Maureen Duffy, including a version of the Bacchae set in a women's toilet, and lesbian feminist companies including Character Ladies, Hard Corps, Parker and Klein, and other mixed companies, with plays on Radclyffe Hall and Una Troubridge, the Ladies of Llangollen, a satire on 1980s lesbian culture and a 1970s play about a working-class lesbian growing up in the 1950s and 60s. Most plays, though produced, have never been published. (fb)
It's finally here! With launch date on Thursday 26th at London Performance Studios my collection of Radical Rediscoveries - performance texts from the Women's Theatre Movement in the 60s, 70s and 80s including the wild and innovative Vagina Rex and the Gas Oven (1969) by Jane Arden, out of print since 1971 and 5 others never before published: Go West, Young Woman by Pam Gems (1974), Minutes by the glorious Hesitate and Demonstrate (1978), Ophelia by Melissa Murray, written for Hormone Imbalance lesbian feminist company in 1979, Natasha Morgan's Room (1981) about women's struggle for creative space and Winsome Pinnock's early show The Wind of Change (1987) written for Half Moon YPT, a powerful play of the Windrush experience. All in a slipcase with my Introduction. It's been a long haul but so worth it. Buy it from https://www.montezpress.com/.../radical-rediscoveries.../ , tell your friends, get your library to order it!
