// The VISION after the fresh paint smell had faded! // Back in March 2019, following the launch of our new building at New Horizon, we were filled with excitement and hope. Once the smell of fresh paint and new carpet faded, it didn’t take long for us to sense that the building was only the beginning. We knew it was time to step into the next key phase of our vision. For many years before the building project, we had been running community programmes and engaging in mission endeavours, both locally and globally. While these efforts were meaningful, they often lacked a unified structure and a clear strategic direction. At the heart of New Horizon has always been a desire to be more than just a thriving Sunday church. Our passion has been to create a vibrant, impactful Monday to Friday Church as well—a church that reaches and supports people in our surrounding communities every day of the week, and that makes a difference across the world through our mission partners. As you’ll remember, not long after our building launch, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, our vision for a thriving weekday church remained firm. During this time, something unexpected happened that would help shape the future of our mission. Ps Andy, who had a long-standing friendship with Ps Leigh Goodwin through both work and personal connections, made a casual call to Ps Leigh simply to say hello and touch base. But what began as a friendly check-in became a Spirit-led moment. After the call, Ps Andy strongly sensed the prompting of the Holy Spirit to invite Ps Leigh to join the New Horizon team as our Mission and Teaching Pastor. Following this conviction, Ps Andy shared the vision with the Board of Directors and to his amazement, even in the middle of the pandemic, the directors unanimously supported the idea. After a brief period of settling in—and following many planning meetings—the New Horizon Foundation was officially launched on 26th September 2021. During the launch service, the congregation responded with incredible generosity, giving a special offering that played a pivotal role in laying the financial foundation for this new and exciting venture. It was a powerful expression of unity, faith, and shared purpose. Since that day, Ps Leigh has faithfully led the Foundation and assembled a diverse and passionate team who continually inspire and challenge us, as a church, to think missionally and to live missionally. “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” — Matthew 28:19 The impact of the Foundation since its inception has been nothing short of remarkable. By God’s grace and through the generosity and dedication of our church family, the Foundation has been a vehicle for hope, healing, and practical support both locally and globally. Some highlights include: Raising thousands of pounds for critical causes, including aid for Ukraine and the Harper’s Hearts for Children initiative in Zimbabwe. Supporting Parish Nursing, providing spiritual and physical care in our local community. Pioneering the outstanding Forever Friends programme, focused on building lasting relationships and helping those with additional needs Launching our Coffee House food bank trolley, providing for those facing food insecurity. Hosting and visiting international mission partners in Serbia. Flood response for local residents Hosting Mariana - Ukraine student from IBTI Providing food parcels for those who require extra support Welcoming mission guest Timothy Chamanga, enriching our church with his insight and testimony. Sending a short-term mission team to Cyprus, furthering our global outreach. Partnering with the Broxtowe Women’s Project, helping vulnerable women in our region. Donating hundreds of Easter eggs and Christmas hampers to local families. Sending hundreds of shoeboxes filled with gifts through Samaritan’s Purse. Running the Summer Breathe Mission, bringing life and encouragement during the summer months. Supporting our home-grown mission-focused individuals, including Luke Tomlinson and Anthonie Keuter. Hosting the midweek Mind Café, creating a safe space for conversations around mental health and well-being. Providing school uniforms to local families experiencing financial hardship. Running parenting courses, equipping and encouraging local families with practical tools Looking ahead, Ps Leigh and the Foundation team are actively preparing for an upcoming mission trip to Zimbabwe. Plans are already underway for another mission trip in 2026, which is already generating strong interest and excitement. We truly believe the work of the New Horizon Foundation is being felt both far and wide—locally and globally. It is a testament to what God can do through a people who are willing to say “Here I am, send me.” We hope that after reading the above, you are deeply encouraged and filled with faith, recognising that the Lord is truly on the move among us. We believe you can sense the momentum and the fresh breath of the Holy Spirit—beautifully orchestrating every detail, uniting hearts and efforts, and bringing all things together for the benefit of people and, ultimately, for the glory of God. Join Us for Foundation Sunday – 18th May at 10:00 AM & 6:30 PM Once a year, we set aside a special day in our church calendar to celebrate what we call Foundation Sunday—a day dedicated to reflecting on the vision, impact, and ongoing work of the New Horizon Foundation. We’re excited to announce that this Sunday, 18th May, is our Foundation Sunday, and we’ll be marking the occasion across both our morning (10:00 AM) and evening (6:30 PM) services. Each service will begin with powerful praise and worship, followed by a special programme that will include vision updates, testimonies, and inspiring stories of how the Foundation is making a difference locally and globally. We’ll also be taking time to honour some key people and share exciting developments you won’t want to miss. Special Foundation Giving Offering (Available via Online Giving & Giving Envelopes) Someone once said, “The Gospel is free, but it’s not cheap.” When you really stop and think about it, that statement rings deeply true. Looking back at my own conversion as a teenager, the gospel was free to me. It cost me nothing to walk into a church. It was free to sit under powerful preaching. It was free to be part of a worshipping community in a warm, well-lit building. But as I grew older and gained perspective, I began to understand the true weight of that quote. Yes, the gospel is freely given—but it was never cheap. It cost Jesus everything. And any vision that carries eternal value will always come with a cost. If something comes cheap, I would suggest it’s likely not worth very much. With that in mind, and in recognition of the cost of vision and mission, we want to invite everyone connected to New Horizon to prayerfully consider giving to our Special Foundation Offering as part of Foundation Sunday. Each year on Foundation Sunday, we take a dedicated offering during both our morning and evening services as a sign of our commitment to the ongoing work of the New Horizon Foundation. As always, there is no pressure to give—only an invitation to pray, seek the Lord, and respond as you feel led. This year, we are believing to raise approximately £6,000, which will fund and expand the work of the Foundation over the next 12 months and beyond. Your giving will directly support life-changing outreach, local impact, global mission, and strategic initiatives that make a real difference. Special Giving Envelopes: Available at the Welcome Table in the Coffee House & Online giving details are available upon request contact office@newhorizonchurch.org.uk This Sunday promises to be a significant and uplifting day in the life of our church—a celebration of all God has done, and a stirring call to what He is still preparing to do through us. Don’t miss it—Foundation Sunday is for everyone, and it won’t be the same without you. With love and gratitude, Ps Andy & Becky (fb)
