Callout number 22: Wednesday 7th May, 3:15pm Weather: Warm, sunny and clear Location: Pillar Type of callout: Lower limb injury Team members involved: 27 Duration: approximately 5 hours Description: At 15:15 on the 7th May Wasdale Mountain Rescue received a callout to an individual who had broken their ankle in the vicinity of Pillar. Following some investigation it became apparent that the casualty was in fact on the Cockermouth side of the boundary and the call was transferred to CMRT. The Team was called out and made its way down Ennerdale valley to Black Sail. Whilst en route a HM Coastguard Helicopter was tasked to the job and arrived on scene as the first Team vehicle pulled up. Rescue 912 (from Humberside), lowered their paramedic to the casualty then uplifted a couple of Team members to the scene before heading to Kirkbride to refuel. Meanwhile the rest of the Team made their way to the casualty on foot. The injury was splinted and the casualty given pain relief before Rescue 912 returned and winched them aboard for onward travel to the Cumberland Infirmary. CMRT made their way off the hill, stopping for brief refreshments at Black Sail Youth Hostel before returning to base. The Team wishes the casualty a speedy recovery and thank Rescue 912 for their assistance. #cockermouthmountainrescue #cmrt #cockermouthmrt #mrew #ldsamra #sar #cockermouth #lakedistrict #helicopter #beadventuresmart #cumbria (fb)
Callout number: 15 Date: 27/03/25 Time: 13:45 Weather: Windy, cold, wet and overcast. Location: High Stile Type of callout: Lost Person Team members involved: 13 Duration: approximately 5.5 hours Description: The Team was called out by an individual whose partner had reported them lost on the High Stile ridge. Under normal circumstances the Team would have attempted to locate the individual through a phonefind/Sarloc, and talk them back off the mountain. Due to the deteriorating conditions and the risk of hypothermia a limited callout was initiated and 13 Team members were despatched to find the individual and escort them off the fell. The Team approached from Buttermere, working their way up Red Pike and along the ridge to High Stile. The casualty was located and carefully escorted off the fell to Buttermere.
