Our team in Raa had a great time organising the Moodhu Vaguthu Initiative (sea time) at Raa Meedhoo Education Center, in collaboration with Manta Trust and JOALI BEING! 💙 Designed for Grade 5 students – our youngest group yet, the two-day session was split into classroom and in-water practice to provide an all-round engaging experience for the children. Day one featured fun presentations on sea turtles by Swift, our Raa Sea Turtle Biologist and manta rays by the Manta Trust team, plus interactive quizzes led by Joali Being’s Marine Biologist, Philippa. The energy in the classroom was amazing, with plenty of smiles, curiosity and even a prize! 🐢✨ Day two brought the kids to the beach for gentle, beginner-friendly water activities. Many had little to no swimming experience, so we focused on basic breathing, floating, and water confidence before trying life jackets and a swim near shore. Patient update: Nakaiy Nakiay our cheery girl is now receiving treatment and supportive care due to a bone infection affecting her front flippers. While progress is gradual, we’re encouraged by the small but positive signs of improvement each day. She remains on buoy feeding, which also aids her dive training and mobility.
