The introduction of a Fair Pay Agreement is a long-overdue recognition that social care is skilled, essential work that deserves better pay and conditions. However, whilst the £500m commitment is a start, it must be matched with sustained investment in the workforce to improve conditions, tackle staff shortages, and support longer-term reform. Our Chief Executive Philippa, Board Member and Alumni Levi and Head of Communications & Public Affairs Katie are in Liverpool to hear the government's vision for mental health following the 10 year health plan. Mental health is not just a health issue, but a social one, shaped by every aspect of our lives. We need a workforce that reflects this - ensuring mental health care is person-centred, holistic and considers the social issues in people's lives like housing, finances and relationships. Mental health social workers are vital professionals who can help people manage these broader social issues and offer life-changing support.
