C&C hurdlers Leah Wagstaff (U20W) and Samuel Clarke (SM) sublimely negotiated the barriers in their respective events to both win gold at the England Athletics U20 and Senior England Championships. Samuel won his 400m hurdles heat (52.52) to secure his place in the final. He also had the fastest qualifying time across both heats. In the final he stepped up a gear to improve his time to 51.68 to win gold with the second placed athlete clocking a time of 52.10. Samuel also reached the final of the hotly contested 110m hurdles where he finished 8th in a quality field. Leah had to wait until Sunday afternoon to begin her campaign. Before these championships Leah was ranked 5th in the country with a legal PB of 14.07. In her heat Leah stamped her authority on the race with a win in a new PB time of 13.84 (+1.7). The final was one of the last races of the day but it was worth the wait. (fb)

Deshawn Lascelles has recently returned from the World University Games which were held in Germany. This is event is a multi sport with around 8,500 athletes taking part in 18 sports over an 11 day period. Not only was Deshawn required to achieve the qualifying standard of 15m he also had to fund himself for the trip. Despite being injured in the run up to the games Deshawn leaped close to his personal best (15.41) with a jump of 15.21m. Joining Deshawn in Germany was Alex Melloy who competed in the 1500m finishing 5th in the heat. Both athletes will now turn their focus to the Novuna UK Athletics Championships taking in place in Birmingham on the 2nd and 3rd August. (fb)
