🚨🚨𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁! 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘂𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀!! 🚨🚨 We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new inclusion initiative: The Rwamwanja Inclusion Project—an exciting milestone in our DA2029 strategy to double our impact in communities across Africa by 2029. Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, in Kamwenge District, western Uganda, is home to over 113,000 refugees, most of whom have fled conflict in the Kivu region of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Many refugee households rely heavily on humanitarian assistance, and despite ongoing efforts by humanitarian actors and the Ugandan government, infrastructure in the settlement remains severely underdeveloped, with limited access to food, clean water, education, and income opportunities. Recent cuts to the World Food Program have affected 55% of the population, increasing pressure on already vulnerable communities. Disabled children in Rwamwanja face particularly high levels of exclusion and vulnerability due to physical, environmental, and social barriers. Support services are extremely limited, fragmented, and rarely tailored to their specific needs. To address this, we are partnering with local coordinators and refugee-led organisation Tomorrow Vijana to launch an inclusive playscheme in the heart of the settlement. Here, disabled children who are excluded from educational institutions will be able to play, learn, and access the support they need throughout the week. This week, we delivered our first virtual training with our incredible playteam, covering topics from social stigma and community attitudes to child-centred approaches and the role of play in development. Our new recruits have already shown remarkable passion, proactivity, and commitment to making a change in their community, delivering awareness raising sessions with caregivers in their communities throughout the week. and we are soexcited to see the positive impact they will create. Stay tuned for updates as we prepare for our first play-day next month! (fb)
𝗥𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻! Our play team in Kawama, Zambia have been having a lot of fun this week taking part in adapted races. Whilst our play activities always prioritise positive interaction and inclusion over competition, it’s great to see everyone get involved, get active and have fun! (fb)

Changing Childrens Lives Ending The Isolation that Harms Disabled Children TAKE ACTION Disabled children across the world are isolated from their communities leaving them significantly more vulnerable to the risk of harm abuse and neglect. Misinformed negative beliefs lack of support services and exclusion from education or healthcare access has lead to disabled people coming to comprise the worst served and most stigmatised group in the world. The greater the level of general poverty in any community the worse the conditions are for the disabled people who live there. Disabled children in the poorest communities are therefore the most disadvantaged people on our planet and are at significant risk of harm and neglect.
