Medway Open Award Centre is an AAP and DofE centre organising and running Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE expeditions for participants and schools in Medway & Kent MOAC is an AAP and DLC running the DofE for Young People in Medway and surrounding areas. Medway Open Award Centre, is a Charitable Interest Organisation set up as a Directly Licenced Centre in which young people can readily access cost effective, knowledge, advice and assistance to facilitate, their achievement of a Duke of Edinburgh's Award at any level. The centre will be staffed by volunteers who believe in the ethos of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Purpose

MOAC serves the Medway area, supporting young individuals aged 14 to 24 in completing the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards of the DofE.

Organisation

The centre is led by an experienced expedition practitioner with a background in managing DofE expeditions for both local authorities and the Army Cadet Force (ACF). The volunteers at MOAC have extensive experience and possess qualifications such as Mountain Leader (ML) and Wilderness First Aid (WGL), many having been involved with the DofE for over 25 years.

Operations

MOAC operates from a dedicated centre located at the Stand Leisure Park in Gillingham, providing services to Gillingham, Rochester, Chatham, and outlying areas like Strood, Rainham, Walderslade, and Lordswood. It offers an on-site equipment store where participants can borrow necessary kit for their expeditions, including tents, rucksacks, and cooking equipment like trangias.

Activities and Support

MOAC organises expeditions for all levels of the DofE, offering practice and assessed expeditions at various locations. The programme includes training, equipment hire, and campsite fees, ensuring that participants have a comprehensive experience.

Volunteer Opportunities

The centre provides opportunities for volunteers to support the provision of the DofE in Medway. All volunteers are subject to a DBS Check to ensure a safe environment for young participants.
