We first discovered we had not one but two Landgirls aboard a trike one day in 2018 when we chatted by this boat ‘Skylark’ outside Brighton Fishing museum @btnseafront Touching the boat Eileen said ‘I was a Land Girl billeted to Eastbourne’ - then chimed in fellow participant Olive ‘I was billeted to Southampton’ and so our regular visits outside and inside the Fishing Museum began! #Brighton #veday80thanniversary see comments for a few photos of the elders behind the stories. Remembering all those we have met through almost 8 years of our 'Elder Care Home Rides'. Some still with us, others no longer. We rememeber all of them. With thanks to every Volunteer Cycle-Pilot who has enabled them to get out and enjoy interaction in their local community. Here's just a few examples of the stories shared. The teacher who evacuated with their Primary School (Marjorie, Brunswick Primary), Eileen whose father was Home Guard and retrieved bodies of soldiers washed up to Brighton beach after Dunkirk. The fishermen who rescued so many including 15 nurses from Dunkirk (visit FREE Brighton Fishing Quarter & Museum - Seafront Heritage Trust), the fighter pilots John and Tojo, the landgirls Prue, Olive and Eileen and all the unsung daily heroes who ate less, shared more, grew the veg, put out the fires, cared for the injured and the workers through war.
