Further to our post at lunch time, Martyn Culley (father of Sam) is walking from Land's End to John O'Groats and he set off from Edale this morning on his Pennine Way section. All in aid of MR and volunteers from Edale MRT and Buxton MRT met him for breakfast and set him on his way. Check Just Giving for links to his fundraiser for MREW and Scottish MR. (fb)
This morning, on behalf of MREW, team members from Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team met with Martyn Culley for breakfast at Newfold Farm in Edale. Martyn left Land's End on 1st April 2025 and is walking to John o’ Groats to raise money for MREW and Scottish Mountain Rescue. Planning to use many of the National Trails along the way, Martyn began the Pennine Way this morning. He first walked this route when he was 17 (in the mid 1970’s) and later when his son Sam (now a popular figure promoting backpacking around the UK on social media) was also 17. Sam will be joining his Dad on some of the trails along the way. Asked why he chose MREW as the benefactor of his epic walk, Martyn replied that "Being a keen outdoors person all my life, and a member of Derby Mountaineering Club, the idea that mountain rescue volunteers are there for me and many other walkers and climbers if ever I have a mishap made the decision of who to fundraise for an easy one to make." You can support Martyn's walk and Mountain Rescue England and Wales via his Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/martyn-culley-1. (fb)
