Gardening Report for 7th May 2025 A team of 8 met today on a nice, mild and sunny afternoon. The recent winds and little rain required a thorough soaking of the borders, planters and the community room wild flower area, whilst there were plenty of sycamore leaves and blossom all around the café area which together with the botanical walk was given a good clean. The children's play area was also cleaned and a missing grate over the water way drain was made safe with a temporary cover. Weeding was also required and the pathway alongside the community room was attended to together with removal of yet more ground elder in the botanical walk. The planters have been tidied up and donated impatiens, geraniums, lobelia, petunia, fibrous begonia and heliochrysum all found homes in the planters and borders. The park continues to look good and many plants are coming into flower, the dianthus in particular is a stunning red and should look spectacular when fully out, and the palm trees are now in flower. A start has been made on removal of nettles which were encroaching onto the path behind the tennis courts, and alongside the top of the bank onto St James's road pathway, this will be continued next week at the Winchester road end where similar growth has taken place.
