It was a memorable evening on Tuesday at the Royal Geographical Society for the Kirker Annual Spring Lecture in aid of the Venice in Peril Fund. The night began with introductions by Ted Wake, Managing Director of Kirker Holidays, and Venice in Peril Fund’s chairman, Guy Elliott. Adam Lowe then delivered a compelling and thought-provoking lecture, reflecting on the evolving relationship between the arts and sciences and their relevance to the complex challenges facing Venice today. Adam’s revolutionary approach to preservation and archiving inspired our audience, offering new ways of thinking about cultural heritage in the 21st century. Central to the talk was the recurring figure of Pasquale Gagliardi, General Secretary of the Giorgio Cini Foundation from 2002 to 2020, whose visionary initiative to commission a facsimile of The Wedding at Cana marked the beginning of Adam Lowe’s enduring connection to Venice.
