While Seed of Hope 'architects' Mary Mwangi, Florence Olwenge and their team in Kenya support them every step of the way, it is the young people themselves that work to break the generational cycles of poverty they are facing; nobody can do this for them. As a UK based charity, its incredibly important that we are lead by the students, graduates and the local experts at our partner NGO in Kenya in everything we do. In Kenya, just over 20% of teenage girls have the opportunity to attend secondary school, with many factors forcing girls out of learning and into early marriage, motherhood, low-paid precarious work and even sexual exploitation. We are committed to levelling the playing field for girls and young women, equipping them with opportunities to gain skills and qualifications in an environment that provides the unique support they might need, including free period pads, child care vouchers and counselling!
