As we mark #InternationalNursesDay five years on from the midst of the pandemic, we remember the sacrifices made by nurses and all NHS workers across the UK. Rebecca (pictured right), Catherine (pictured left) and Laura (pictured centre) work in Critical Care at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. As one of the most affected Trusts in the country during that time, they know all too well the impact of Covid-19 on NHS staff, but also the resolve they had to carry on caring for their patients through such a challenging time. 💬 Rebecca spoke at our Day of Reflection event in March, where she said: “Covid-19 showed us the true strength of the human spirit. It tested our systems, our health workers, and our communities in unimaginable ways. But it also revealed something else: the profound, unwavering courage of those who serve, heal, and protect.” Catherine adds: “There were so many highs and lows. Holding the hands of dying patients while families watched on via video calls was particularly heartbreaking. It felt wrong to be the one doing it, but in the same way a privilege to do this when families couldn't be there.” Laura continues: “The only people who truly understood what we were going through were our colleagues around us. The best of what I saw was the teamwork. While the whole world was being told to keep apart, we all pulled together and faced the hardest challenge of our working lives together.” #InternationalNursesDay2025 #NHS (fb)
