🌍 July 30 – World Day Against Trafficking in Persons Human Trafficking Is Organized Crime – End the Exploitation This year’s theme calls for dismantling trafficking networks through strong criminal justice responses and a victim-centred approach. At Chab Dai, we believe that no single organisation can end trafficking alone. Our coalition brings together frontline NGOs, civil society organisations (CSOs), and local authorities across Cambodia to strengthen protection systems, improve coordination, and ensure perpetrators are held accountable. As trafficking networks become more organized and transnational, our collective response must be just as connected and committed. On this World Day, we honor the strength of our partners and reaffirm the power of collaboration in the fight against exploitation. #WorldDayAgainstTrafficking #EndHumanTrafficking #ChabDai #TogetherAgainstTrafficking #CoalitionInAction (fb)
Lessons, Leadership, and Legacy — Reflections on 20 Years of Chab Dai 20 Years of Chab Dai: An Interview with Founder Helen Sworn In the second part of our conversation with Helen Sworn, Chab Dai’s founder reflects on the early challenges of coalition work, the importance of local leadership, and the milestones that have defined Chab Dai’s first two decades. 🎤In the early days, what were some of the biggest challenges you faced? Funding was the first hurdle. Once we realised we were not going to get the government funding we had hoped for, we began connecting with foundations and others until we had the startup support we needed for our first year. Another challenge then, and still today, is that bringing people together is hard. Many organisations working in this sector are focused on their own vision. They are determined, opinionated, and resilient personalities, and do not always see the need for peer learning and collaboration. I affectionately call myself (and others who run coalitions) a cat herder. 🎤What moments or milestones over the past 20 years stand out most to you? One that stands out is hiring a Cambodian Coordinator at the beginning and telling him, in the interview, that this organisation would be his in five years’ time. And five years later, I handed over the official organisation stamp to him and the other Cambodian leaders in the organisation. It wasn’t an easy journey, but it was a critical one. Ensuring leadership succession became a priority not only for Chab Dai, but for the sector. So many others come to mind: seeing the positive impact Chab Dai was having with the Cambodian government, built over many years; how Chab Dai became a model of coalition building for other organisations and networks around the world; starting the first longitudinal research with survivors of trafficking in Cambodia, which has gone on to impact policies and practices in other nations. And last, but not least, seeing the next generation of Cambodians working in this field, being the change they want to see in their country. That has been such an inspiration for change. #TogetherToEndTrafficking #JoinHands #chabdai20 (fb)
