EXHIBITION / Last chance to visit Ten.8 in Focus at The Photographers' Gallery before it closes on 23 February! Ten.8 in Focus: The legacy of Black Image and Body Politics (9 October 2024 - 23 February 2025) celebrates the renowned photography journal Ten.8 and its wider influence. It brings into focus two editions of Ten.8, Black Image (1984) and Body Politics (1987), by activating this rich history through text, design and archival material. Using these two issues as a departure point, this exhibition aims to open up a wider conversation about the legacy of Ten.8 and its exploration of the photographic medium. Read more and book tickets here https://bit.ly/4h7zr7W As Ten.8 in Focus comes to a close, take a piece of the exhibition home with the limited edition Ten.8 poster. Each specially designed A2 poster is signed by ICF's Artistic Director David A Bailey and Ten.8 Editors Derek Bishton and Darryl Georgiou. Posters can be purchased at The Photographers’ Gallery bookshop and online at the ICF Shop. Poster design by Darryl Daley. Order the poster online here https://bit.ly/4e5b1JD (fb)
EVENT/ Hear Martina Attille and Rhea Storr in conversation following a screening of their respective works Dreaming Rivers (1988) and The Image that Spits, the Eye that Accumulates (2017). Saturday 1 February 2025, 3 – 5:30pm The Photographers’ Gallery London This event will explore how still and moving images are constructed in relation to race, gender and culture, and how film, as a medium, facilitates different ways of framing these narratives. The selected films – Dreaming Rivers (1988), written and directed by filmmaker Martina Attille, and The Image that Spits, the Eye that Accumulates (2017), directed by filmmaker Rhea Storr – invite audiences to consider how artists have used the camera to explore images through imaginative, narrative documentary practices. Following the screening, Martina Attille and Rhea Storr will join curator and ICF’s Ten.8 Curatorial Fellow Pelumi Odubanjo in conversation. Together they will examine the political, social and cultural contexts in which Ten.8 Magazine was produced in the 1980s, exploring its relevance today and its ongoing resonance with contemporary perspectives. ICF Facebook followers are invited to book concession tickets via the booking link below. Book tickets here: bit.ly/3DK7ML0 This event coincides with the current exhibition Ten.8 in Focus: The legacy of Black Image and Body Politics, which is on display at The Photographers’ Gallery until 23 February 2025. The event is presented by The Photographers' Gallery in partnership with the International Curators Forum as part of ICF’s Ten.8 Research & Curatorial Fellowship, which is supported by Foyle Foundation and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
