ADHD Embrace

ADHD Embrace is a United Kingdom-based charitable organisation dedicated to supporting parents, carers, and professionals who live and work with children and young people diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The charity primarily operates in the South West London area, focusing on improving the lives of children and young people aged 5 to 18, alongside their families and caregivers.

History and Background

Initially registered as ADHD Richmond and Kingston, ADHD Embrace became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 25 March 2020 under charity number 1188759. Its foundation was motivated by the need to provide accessible information, advocacy, and support to communities dealing with ADHD in the local area.

Mission and Activities

The charity’s overarching mission is to provide information, knowledge, and support to enhance the wellbeing and development of children and young people with ADHD and those who support them. This includes:

  • Delivering post-diagnosis workshops and advice clinics for parents, helping them understand and manage ADHD effectively.
  • Facilitating peer support through organised meet-ups and moderating a closed Facebook forum that offers a safe space for parents to share experiences and advice.
  • Supporting educational professionals by running teacher seminars, a Schools Outreach programme, and maintaining a dedicated Facebook group for teachers and Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs), to foster understanding and effective educational strategies for children with ADHD.
  • Providing resources such as a video library filled with informative content to aid parents and professionals in understanding ADHD.

Governance and Structure

ADHD Embrace is governed by a board of seven trustees and supported by around 25 volunteers. The organisation operates with a strong ethos of community involvement and low-cost operational management. No trustees receive remuneration for their roles. The charity ensures rigorous internal controls, risk management, safeguarding policies, and volunteer management to maintain transparency and accountability.

Financial Information

For the financial year ending 31 March 2024, ADHD Embrace reported a total income of £153,343 and total expenditure of £118,876. The charity does not have any employees receiving benefits exceeding £60,000 and does not operate any trading subsidiaries.

Fundraising and Community Engagement

The organisation encourages community fundraising through various challenge events such as running, walking, and cycling activities. It also participates in initiatives like the Get Lucky Lottery and partners with local schools and community groups to nominate ADHD Embrace as their chosen charity. Online fundraising efforts include collaboration with retail platforms that enable supporters to raise funds through everyday shopping.

Impact and Reach

Operating primarily within the boroughs of Kingston Upon Thames and Richmond Upon Thames, ADHD Embrace plays a critical role in raising awareness, providing education, and facilitating community support networks for ADHD. Through its multi-faceted approach involving advocacy, training, and support services, the charity contributes significantly to improving the quality of life of children and young people with ADHD, as well as their families and the professionals who assist them.
