History

Kendal Snowsports Club was originally formed in 1984 by a group of enthusiasts who convened at The Brewery Arts Centre in Kendal to discuss the creation of a local ski club and the construction of their own ski slope. The initiative was kick-started when approximately two hundred individuals each contributed £10 to fund the project. Members actively participated in building both the slope and the ski lodge situated on the hillside below Kendal Castle.

In 1997, the club successfully secured a National Lottery grant that allowed for the complete rebuilding of the slope using the innovative Snowflex matting system, which was then an untested technology. This redevelopment enhanced the club's facilities and enabled it to expand its offerings.

Further growth occurred in 2004 when the slope was extended, which contributed significantly to a rise in membership—to nearly 1,800 members by mid-2006. This expansion also allowed the club to broaden its ski class programs and activities.

On 11 December 2020, Kendal Snowsports Club officially became a registered charity with a new constitution, club rules, and a governance structure managed by seven trustees. This transition formalized the club’s charitable status and reinforced its commitment to serving the local community through snowsports[2][3][5].

Kendal Snowsports Club provides a diverse range of snowsport-related activities including ski and snowboard lessons accredited by Snowsport England, open ski sessions, freestyle skiing, snowboarding, and tubing.
