Bathroom Access at Leeds Bus Station / Railway Station A Statement from TransLeeds and TransPrideLeeds You may have seen postings on social media recently claiming that West Yorkshire Police / British Transport Police have been stopping trans folk from accessing the bathrooms at Leeds Bus Station / Leeds Railway Station. Please be assured this is not true. West Yorkshire Police have assured us multiple times since the Supreme Court ruling that there has been no change in their policy towards trans people. BTP did announce a change to their strip search policy but the bar for conducting a strip search is very high and has nothing to do with access to bathrooms. There’s currently no legislation under which any police force can quiz random people about their gender and genitals and, if they did, there’s a high likelihood they’d be sued. We are in constant contact with WYP and we have asked for a meeting with BTP. In the meantime, please don't believe or spread these rumours / disinformation as they cause needless stress and worry and unnecessary work in debunking them. (fb)
