Goole Amateur Boxing Club

Goole Amateur Boxing Club (Charity number 1202067) is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) based in Goole, United Kingdom, dedicated to promoting community participation in healthy recreation through amateur boxing. Established on 1 July 2021, the club provides inclusive boxing training and fitness classes to individuals of all ages and genders, fostering both competitive and recreational involvement in the sport.

History and Development

The club opened in July 2021 and quickly gained a strong local following. Initially supported by The Moorlands Community Charity, the club became an independent charity on 1 April 2023. This transition marked the establishment of Goole Amateur Boxing Club CIO as the operating entity of the organisation. The club’s growth has been significant, with membership reaching 229 by its second year, including a wide age range from 8-year-olds to members over 60 years old. Many members hold licences with England Boxing, actively competing in regional competitions.[4][2]

Mission and Objectives

Goole Amateur Boxing Club aims to promote health and save lives through amateur sport, with a focus on boxing. The charity’s objectives emphasize the advancement of community participation in healthy recreation for the benefit of inhabitants of Goole and surrounding areas. The club’s mission includes:

  • Providing boxing training and boxing-based fitness sessions accessible to all ages and fitness levels
  • Developing teamwork and individual leadership skills
  • Instilling confidence and self-belief among members
  • Encouraging respect for oneself and others
  • Offering an inclusive environment welcoming all genders and ages from 8 upwards[1][3]

Activities and Programs

The club offers a variety of sessions throughout the week, catering to beginners as well as experienced boxers. Training includes competitive boxing preparation, recreational boxing, and non-contact fitness classes based on boxing techniques. The club also plans to expand its offerings, including introducing sessions for children aged 4 to 7, supporting veterans' involvement, and increasing volunteer participation to broaden community reach.[1][4][5]

Community Impact

Goole Amateur Boxing Club actively contributes to reducing anti-social behaviour and supports disadvantaged young people and families by providing a positive sporting outlet. The club's inclusive ethos is reflected in its welcoming approach, described by Head Coach Renetta Edwards: "We are not men and women, boys and girls – we are boxers, who love the sport of boxing." The organisation also focuses on nurturing life skills alongside boxing skills, aiming to develop confident individuals with positive character traits able to achieve their aspirations.[1][4][5]

Governance and Funding

The club is governed by a management board and trustees who oversee its charitable activities. Support from local organisations and charitable trusts has been crucial to its development. Financial backing has been provided by community funds, police and crime commissioner grants, local charities, and donations, enabling the club to offer affordable sessions (£3 per group class after a free introductory session) and maintain a volunteer coaching team.[5]

Future Plans

Goole Amateur Boxing Club intends to grow into a Centre of Excellence for amateur boxing in its sub-region, expanding programs and enhancing facilities to support greater community participation and competitive success. Its long-term vision includes fostering champions both in the ring and in life, enhancing health and social outcomes for the local population.[4][5]
