It was all about Bread and Dips today as we continue to work with women at DIPACT piloting The Global Roots Cafè. Bread combines four simple and inexpensive ingredients to make one of the world's longest - standing goods in almost every culture. How we spent one Thursday morning with the wonderful women from different countries piloting a Global Roots Cafè,led by our very own chef Ruth Mbera We did story telling through spices. From Enhancing flavour and aroma of food to Health benefits and Beyond the Kitchen. We talked about how spices can be combined to create unique flavour profiles, defining regional cuisines. How we can use spices as preservatives but also garnishes. Many spices also contain antioxidants which can help protect the body against cell damage. Historically,spices have been used beyond the kitchen for skincare and traditional medicine. So next time you hold that spice jar, think beyond flavour and aroma. (fb)
