Meet Amberlynn (@reel_salty.a.f). From a young age, she was captivated by the ocean, spending her childhood immersed in activities like freediving and fishing. This early passion laid the foundation for her academic journey. During her undergrad, she studied marine science at Coastal Carolina University @coastalstem. She worked closely with Dr. Dan Abel spent her time volunteering with the @ccusharkresearchlab and studied abroad at the Bimini Biological field station @biminisharklab. With a thirst for knowledge and adventure, she ventured independently to Alaska, earning her AAUS Scientific Diver certification from the University of Alaska Southeast @uassoutheast. This achievement marked a significant milestone in her career, enabling her to explore the underwater world with the expertise required for scientific research diving. Following her certification, she lived in Alaska for two years, where she worked with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game @alaska.dfg collecting data for the King Salmon commercial fishery. Her role allowed her to contribute to the management of the state’s rich marine ecosystems while also volunteering with the Sitka Fire Department’s dive rescue team. During this time, she enhanced her diving skills but also gained invaluable experience in teamwork and emergency response. Eager to expand her horizons, she relocated to California in search of more diving opportunities. There, she landed a position as an Aquarist, where she manages coral and teleost husbandry. Her career trajectory is set to take an exciting turn this May, as she prepares to travel to Fiji for a few weeks to work on a coral restoration project with Counting Coral @countingcoral. With her dedication and expertise, she is passionate about inspiring others to get involved in the field.
