The Accessibility and Inclusion Ministry Team of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg is hosting an All-Candidates Debate on Accessibility in Canada, organized by the Manitoba League of Persons with Disabilities (MLPD). We are inviting all parties to a non-partisan discussion, moderated by Marcy Markusa from the CBC. The candidates will be discussing their positions on issues such as housing, the Canada Disability Benefit, protections for healthcare, and other concerns impacting Canadians with accessibility barriers or disabilities. This event will be held on Tuesday, April 8th from 6:30 to 8:00PM at the Unitarian Church on 603 Wellington Crescent in Winnipeg. There is a ramp at the front of the church and accessible washroom available. We are also providing ASL interpretation. There is also a limited zoom option for attendees that cannot join in person. Even in challenging times, we can evaluate the strength of a country and its leaders by how it treats its people. Please join us for this exciting event funded by Elections Canada. The ILRC has a new consumer that they are potentially supporting. The individual is 14 years old and non-verbal with autism. They have some physical or violent episodes but not more than once a week. Primary care is to follow the consumer. Consumer is very mobile and may take up to 10 baths per day. Consumer lines in East St. Paul, just outside the perimeter. Because transit does not provide service we need ILAs who drive and are physically capable of managing the situation. The consumer will have 60 hours per week minimum. Shifts will begin in the afternoon after the consumer arrives home from school. Weekends are flexible. If interested please contact Romeo with your qualifications at romeor@ilrc.mb.ca. (fb)
